Network Rail has again sprung a nasty surprise on the people of North Oxford. Last time it was the announcement in its forward plan that that it was contemplating a rail flyover to replace the Oxford North junction just south of Wolvercote.

What fantastic news. I am referring to the story ‘Team effort wins Wantage award for best town centre’ in the Great British Town Awards, November 12. Surely accolades don’t come much better than that.

I will pursue this as soon as funding is available

Allow me to thank Elaine Bennett, (When is lighting going to be installed?, November 18) for her kind words regarding me getting the lights installed into Croft Road Recreation Ground.

Money could have been spent much more wisely

Does anyone know why Oxfordshire County Council is spending vast amounts of money to “improve” the Ducklington Lane/Station Lane junction in Witney?

Residents should not have to lose such a valued community amenity

On Monday evening I learned about the latest proposal by the Save Temple Cowley Pools group for leasing the facilities, saving them from destruction and replacement by housing. The city council will consider this and other proposals at 5.30pm on December 10. Some reasons to hope that this plan wins out: 1. The pools and gym are much used and conveniently located. They are within walking distance for many people, unlike the replacement pool in Blackbird Leys, which would have to be accessed by bus or car by the majority.
