I AM writing regarding the recent story concerning the chaos caused by Bicester Village on Black Friday.

TORY councillors and their Lib Dem fellow travellers choose Christmas as the ideal time to announce that they have voted themselves an 19 per cent pay rise (what happened to local government as a voluntary service for the public good?) – presumably to fortify themselves for the strenuous work of deciding how to strip away £20m of vital services for the most vulnerable in our society, and sack council staff.

SO, Duncan Enright (‘We need long-term A40 plan to end congestion’, December 3) is to solve the A40 problem single-handed when he ousts David Cameron at the general election. The former is as likely as the latter.

THIS will be the last Christmas in a fair society if the Tories win the next election. The Health Service will be steadily sold off, wages driven down even more and a lonely Britain could be cut off from the rest of Europe.

I AM honoured to be a Freeman of the City of Oxford, and as a custodian of Port Meadow feel an obligation to hand it on in at least as good a condition as it was when I was admitted.
