OXFORDSHIRE commuters are set to pay more for train tickets after rail operators discovered how much they could increase rail prices today.
The average train fare in England is set to go up by 3.5 per cent in the new year.
Under the Government’s formula, operators can increase regulated rail fares in England by July's measure of inflation, plus 1 per cent.
The Retail Prices Index was 2.5 per cent last month, according to the Office for National Statistics.
For Oxford’s commuters this means a season ticket from Oxford to London Paddington could go up by £163.52, and would then cost £4,835.
