A MAN was taken to hospital this morning after two heavy goods vehicles crashed on the A34, sending beer barrels across the road.

The accident happened at about 12.45am on the road’s southbound carriageway between Milton and West Ilsley.

A man in his 40s had to be cut free from an articulated lorry by fire fighters and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Fire crews from Wallingford, Kidlington, Didcot and Abingdon attended and also helped clear up a diesel spill on the dual carriageway.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said that one of the lorries was carrying beer barrels which ended up scattered "across the carriageway".

He added that the road was closed until around 6am while the Environment Agency cleared up the fuel spill.
