OXFORDSHIRE looks to have bucked the national trend yesterday as the county’s pass rate remained stable despite a nationwide dip.

Thousands of students across Oxfordshire nervously tore open envelopes yesterday morning to find out what their A-Level results were, putting an end to years of hard work.

Early indications appeared to show that results across Oxfordshire were similar to last year, with about 93 per cent of students gaining two or more A-Levels at the pass rate – grades A* to E.

Last year’s figure was 92.6 per cent.

Nationally, 98 per cent of exams scored at least an E this summer, down by 0.1 percentage points – the first time it has fallen in 32 years.

Melinda Tilley, the county council cabinet member for education, said: “Congratulations to all those students receiving such excellent results.

“As always, results day represents the culmination of years of hard work on the part of the young people themselves, and the efforts of dedicated teaching staff.

“Parents also play a crucial role in supporting their children through the exam period, which can be extremely stressful.”
