YOUNGSTERS used their heads to learn about the history of the First World War at a hat-making event at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum.
The junior historians made hats at the Woodstock attraction yesterday in the style of soldiers’ helmets and nurses caps and saw real hats and helmets which were worn during the conflict.
Samantha Bradley, from Abingdon, who was there with son Adam, nine, said: “We had a great time.
“We spent our whole day at the museum and the kids loved it.
“It was a brilliant event for the kids to take part in.”
Adam, a pupil at Dunmore Primary School in Abingdon, who made a German Pickelhaube, said: “Art is my favourite subject at school so I really enjoyed taking part and making the hats.
“I picked the German hat because it had the most interesting design.
“I have learned a bit about the war in school before and I have been watching things about it on TV recently because it was 100 years ago.
“I liked the rest of the museum as well, especially seeing old things from the war that I was able to touch and feel.”
