AN ARTIST’S film about how the Internet can corrupt society has taken up residency in Modern Art Oxford.
St Edmund Hall graduate Rosamund Lakin is having her work displayed until August 24 as part of the Platform project, which supports young artists at colleges and universities in the South East.
She said: “Putting on a solo show in an established gallery is a completely different process from putting on shows at art school, the residency has allowed me to gain a new perspective on my work.
“After the residency, I’d like to gain more technical skills so I can carry out some of the more challenging ideas I have for my video work.”
Ms Lakin has also been shortlisted for the Platform Award, which could see her land a £2,500 bursary and a 12-month professional support package.
Her two films are about how the internet is used, including Google and modern abbreviations such as “lol”, and its “pervasive and often corrupting quality on society and the individual.”
Modern Art Oxford is one of five galleries in the South East exhibiting the Platform works, after choosing a single artist from each of the graduate shows at Reading University, Oxford Brookes University and the Ruskin School of Art, part of Oxford University.
The winners were then given the opportunity to talk with the gallery’s staff about how their shows would be displayed there.
