A £390,000 project to improve parking at an Abingdon leisure centre will start soon.
Work on an overflow area with 99 new spaces is to start at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre from Tuesday, August 26.
The new spaces will be next to the skatepark and work will include new access roads and improvements to landscaping, draining, lighting and signing.
A new cycleway and pedestrian crossing will also be created.
Vale of White Horse District Council will also improve the current car park with resurfacing work, sign improvements, and the creation of five more disabled parking spaces.
The leisure centre in Audlett Drive currently attracts more than 700,000 visitors every year and the new work — which will take two months — will increase the number of parking spaces to 343.
Elaine Ware, the council’s cabinet member for economy, leisure and property, said: “The White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre is an extremely popular facility. However, this has meant that the car park’s capacity is exceeded on a regular basis, which causes issues both on site and on neighbouring roads.
“The lack of car parking has been a recurring theme of dissatisfaction for centre users, so I’m sure this increase in capacity will be a very welcome development.”
