Two hurt and one arrested after series of crashes

TWO people were taken to hospital and a driver was charged with drink-driving after a series of crashes on Oxfordshire’s roads yesterday morning.

A man had to be cut from his car after crashing into the central reservation on the A34 southbound near Kidlington.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release him from the grey Vauxhall Astra after the collision, which did not involve any other vehicles, between Pear Tree and the Bletchingdon junction at about 5.50am.

Traffic queued back to the M40 at junction nine near Bicester and there were delays on the A41 between Bicester and the junction.

The man was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital and the road was reopened by 8.30am.

A car and a motorbike crashed on the A420 near Cumnor at about 7.15am, with one person taken to hospital.

Traffic backed up towards Botley.

South Central Ambulance Service did not release details of either person’s condition.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man from Witney was arrested after a crash that damaged traffic lights on the A40 near Cassington, just after 3am yesterday.

Kingsley Ougwu, from Blakes Avenue, Witney, was later charged with drink-driving.

He is due to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 26.
