Manure on fields not responsible for pong

Council officers have ruled out fields near Bayswater Road, Oxford, as the source of the mysterious bad smell that wafted through Oxfordshire this week.

A spokesman for South Oxfordshire District Council, which is investigating with Oxford City Council, said the chicken manure spread there was not likely to be the source of complaints.

The spokesman said: “The odour was only very noticeable when you are immediately adjacent to the field, and not from much further away.

“Although slightly different to usual agricultural smells, it was no stronger than from usual slurry spreading which is common at this time of year.

“We are still trying to identify the source of these complaints.”

Is this what most people complain about. Just think how lucky we are to have a pong smell where other country's people die from outbreaks.

That's it! I knew I recognised the smell - it was indeed chicken manure. I'm certain of it.

In all my years of driving around this and many other countries I have never smelt anything like this. Last Tuesday between the Crem and the white house I had to hold my breath and go as fast as I could because it was painful to breathe. I dread to think what it must have been like for local residents. Again I say that this was not normal "countryside Smells"

Try the Edinburgh bypass on a hot day between as you pass Edinburgh Park railway station if the wind is from the west.

My word, the smell from the 12 massive chicken barns is quite eye watering.
