LEAFIELD-based Formula 1 team Caterham is counter-suing a group of former employees who banded together to take the firm to court after being laid off.

The company said the compensation claim put forward by ex-staff citing alleged wrongful dismissal and unpaid wages was a “gross misrepresentation of the facts’’.

Caterham was taken over at the start of the month by a consortium of Swiss and Middle-Eastern businessmen and about 40 employees have claimed they were made redundant “without warning or consultation”.

A statement from the team said: “Caterham F1 Team has read with great concern recent reports about a group of individuals who are claiming unfair dismissal from the Formula One team following its takeover.

“The team is now taking legal action against those parties representing the individuals concerned, and each person involved, seeking compensation for the damages suffered by the team due to the gross misrepresentation of the facts made by all those concerned.’’

The team would continue to focus on the 2014 Formula One world championship, it added.

This is nasty precedent in that you feel you have legal case to bring against employer, having been made redundant who immediately counter sues to try & quash the serfs.
Not as is they'll have oodles of cash unlike Middle Eastern individual concerned.
