APHRA Hiscock, 15, is going wild at Oxford’s Story Museum this week.

She is helping the Pembroke Street museum bring to life one of her favourite children’s books – Where the Wild Things Are by American writer Maurice Sendak.

The museum is hosting a Where the Wild Things Are week, with readings each day.

On Saturday the museum will host a screening of Spike Jonze’s 2009 film adaptation followed by a discussion of the film versus the book.

Yesterday, Aphra, who goes to Matthew Arnold School in Oxford, volunteered to dress as a “wild thing” to accompany a reading of the story.

She said: “I am very much a fan of the book.

“I like it because it is about a massive argument between parent and child and it is a really interesting way to talk about what really happens in that situation.”

The museum chose the book for a themed week because Oxford author Katherine Rundell nominated it for the museum’s 26 Character exhibition.

Saturday’s film screening will cost £2 and the discussion is optional. There will also be a free circus skills session at the museum from 11am to 2pm.
