HUNDREDS of people gathered for a service in Bicester this morning to bid farewell to a regiment that has been part of the town for 70 years.
About 150 troops from 23 Pioneer Regiment, based at St David's Barracks, were joined by members of the public at St Edburg's Church at 11.30 today for a special service.
There were readings, hymns and prayers by vicars, army officers and Bicester Mayor Lynn Pratt.
The regiment, disbanding due to the reduction of the Army, paraded through the town at 12.30pm.
Onlookers cheered and clapped as soldiers past and present walked through Bicester's streets.
Veterans are cheered as they take part in the town's farewell parade
