A six-strong team from RAF Brize Norton have raised more than £4,000 after taking on the River Thames Path in a 184-mile relay run.

The run, from Kemble in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier in London, was in aid of charities including the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Running in six-mile legs, they completed the challenge in 30 hours after setting out in the early hours of Friday, June 26. They reached their destination at 1.30pm the next day.

Corporal Stuart Goodhall said: “This really was a bit of a marathon challenge. We each ran more than the distance of a marathon, but also ran over a 30-hour timeframe.

"Fatigue was definitely a factor, but it was fantastic to see the Thames Barrier draw closer and know what we had accomplished."

Cpl Goodhall was joined in the challenge by Senior Aircraftman Liam Allen, Sgt Jim Weeks, Cpl Scott Butchart, Cpl Alex Leathley, SAC Chris Turner and reserve runner Sgt Andrew Kuchta, with Cpl Dom Frapwell, SAC John Lewis and SAC Lee Cunnick acting as the support team.

The team set themselves the target of raising £5,000 through sponsorship and collections to be shared by the RAF Benevolent Fund, special needs charity KEEN Oxford, and Fly2Help, which provides flying experiences for people with life-limiting and chronic illnesses.

With Giftaid donations, they have so far collected £4,350.
