MUM-OF-SEVEN Lianne Moody says John Radcliffe staff are her Hospital Heroes after helping her safely give birth with a heart condition.

She has nominated consultant cardiologist Dr Oliver Ormerod for the Oxford Mail’s Hospital Heroes awards.

One outstanding individual and team from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust will win the top award when winners are announced in December.

Mrs Moody, 40, was diagnosed with left ventricular tachycardia, an abnormal heart rhythm, after giving birth to her fifth child Tommy, now six.

She went on to have Eve, now four, with no concerns but saw Northampton General Hospital medics when pregnant again over her irregular heart beat.

The Long Buckby, Northamptonshire resident was then transferred to specialists at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital when 38 weeks’ pregnant.

She said: “All the teams came together, maternity, heart specialists and monitored me. At first they weren’t too concerned though my heart was really racing.

“Dr Ormerod did an echocardiogram and said ‘we need the baby out’.”

After being transferred to critical care Miss Moody was given an epidural and induced and, a day after being admitted, gave birth to Charlie at 7lb 3oz, on February 19 this year.

She said: “Dr Ormerod was absolutely fantastic, the staff were out of this world, the care was really, really good.

“Because they are so professional and caring they put you at ease, even when things are fairly serious.

“I felt completely cared for. Even after, he emailed to check I was OK.”

After having Jess, now 21, Lauren, 15, Sam, 14, Kyle, 11, Tommy, six, Eve, four and now Charlie, Mrs Moody said her childbearing days are over.

“I absolutely love children, I love being around children, their joy of life. Some people think we are absolutely crazy but it works for us.

“We had six and Charlie was a bit of a surprise, but he was the wild card that has kept us on our toes.”

Dr Ormerod said: “This came very suddenly. I met Lianne one day and she delivered the next.”

“It could not have gone better. I wasn’t expecting it to be quite as straightforward as it turned out to be.”

Hospital Heroes winners will be revealed as part of the trust's glittering annual staff awards in early December.
