How two little ‘princes’ spent their very different birthdays

OUR FUTURE king celebrated his first birthday yesterday, but it wasn’t just Prince George who blew out a candle.

As third-in-line to the throne the little prince had a birthday tea party at Kensington Palace with both sets of relatives.

But Joseph Ormond, from Witney, born on the same day as Prince George, was also on holiday for his first birthday – enjoying the sunshine at Butlins in Minehead.

Mum Tracey said: “We had a very busy day, because we’re on our family holiday for the week.

“Joseph opened his presents in the morning, then we went to a funfair where he went on a little ride, and we went swimming in the afternoon.

“He’s had a great day, really enjoyed himself.”

This time last year, Joseph made a dramatic entrance into the world when he was delivered by his dad Les at the family’s former Carterton home just nine minutes after the couple called for an ambulance.

Joseph weighed 7lb 9oz when he was born, compared to Prince George who weighed 8lb 6oz, and – unlike the prince now – cannot walk.

Mrs Ormond said: “He’s still being lazy and crawling.

“He can pull himself up but that’s about it.”

The year has gone smoothly, Mrs Ormond, 26, added: “We’re very grateful, it’s all been fine. There have been no problems or difficulties.”

The pre-school assistant said: “The fact that Joseph has the same birthday as Prince George doesn’t really affect anything, but with all of the media countdown we’ll never forget his birthday.”

But Mrs Ormond, who is also mum to Bethany, nine, and four-year-old Hollie, said that Joseph’s royal counterpart has a special spot in the family’s hearts.

She said: “He’s adorable, he’s the sweetest little thing ever. Whenever we see him in the paper the girls always say ‘Oh look it’s Prince George,’ but they still think Joseph’s cuter.”

And when it comes to presents, both of the birthday boys have been spoilt with aeroplane gifts – albeit in very different ways.

Speaking about Joseph’s presents, Mrs Ormond said: “He got lots of Thomas the Tank Engine stuff and a Toot-Toot Driver’s airport set. He’s a typical boy, he loves his cars and planes.“
