A TEAM of mothers in Oxford united to organise a multicultural event to share the message of Ramadan.
Mothers from St Nicholas’ Primary School, in Raymund Road, Old Marston, organised their Big Iftar event to celebrate breaking their religious fast.
More than 200 residents from across the city joined the family event on Friday.
Headteacher Rachel Crouch said: “We have a multicultural school and we have got to bring all the religious and non-religious together to share the meaning of Ramadan to improve community spirit.
“We are a multicultural school so we need to be showing support for all cultures and beliefs. It’s about showing respect for different cultures and religions and it’s something we are proud of in this school.”
Young pupils performed plays about fasting before all visitors joined in breaking the fast during a 10pm feast.
The event was part of a national initiative encouraging Muslim communities to welcome friends and neighbours to share the breaking of their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
