OXFORDSHIRE is braced for more severe weather tonight after the Met Office put yellow and amber warnings in place for the South East this weekend.

The national weather service predicted “thundery showers” would sweep north, being worst in the south of the county, with the downpour continuing as late as 10am into tomorrow. And the thunder and lightning is expected to return again later that day, in the afternoon.

It is thought that Sunday will be mostly clear.

A yellow warning was issued for Friday night in the southern areas of Oxfordshire, with the whole county covered by an amber warning on Saturday.

It comes on the heels of thunderstorms that raged across the county last night, prompting readers to send in pictures of spectacular forked lightning caused by the recent humid climate. Temperatures this afternoon in Oxford were as high as 27C.
