ORGANISERS of the CLA Game Fair say they are ready for mass crowds to descend on Blenheim Palace today.

More than 150,000 visitors are expected at the countryside fair between today and Sunday.

The last of the 900 exhibitors arrived yesterday.

Interim director Tony Wall said: “It was very busy, as it always is on the day before.

“Most people have little niggles or problems that need to be dealt with so it’s fairly manic. But we will be ready.”

About 400 staff have helped set up marquees and 3km of fencing, and many were due for a 5am start today.

Traffic-monitoring helicopters and six roadside cameras, connecting to a live feed in an on-site event control room, were tested yesterday.

Drivers using Swinford Toll Bridge will not have to pay the usual 5p fees, as the fair has rented it for three days and there are variable message boards in place to give details on diversions.

  • A £180,000 hydropower scheme on the Blenheim Palace estate, which will generate enough power for 20 homes, was switched on by estate owner the Duke of Marlborough yesterday.
