Transfer of jobs set to save county council £700K

First published in News

A SHAKE-UP affecting the jobs of 140 Oxfordshire County Council workers was yesterday approved.

The cabinet agreed the measures, which will see large parts of the council’s finance and human resources departments move to a centre run by Hampshire County Council in Winchester.

Officials said it will save £700,000 a year.

Support services for schools are one of the areas affected by the changes.

But teachers representative Ian Jones told cabinet members: “We are much heartened by the plans put forward here.”

Concerns had been raised that not enough staff would remain in Oxfordshire but councillors gave assurances that a base would remain in the county for staff liaising with schools.

About 140 Oxfordshire staff could be incorporated into the Hampshire centre and would be offered the chance to transfer, the council said. They would be eligible for financial support for the relocation, though if they choose not to transfer, some redundancies may be made.

A final decision on any redundancies would be made in March 2015.
