JURORS were told outrageous lies about the family of two murdered children in a bid to create “dust clouds” around the true story, a prosecutor has said.
Fiaz Munshi denies plotting to kill Anum, eight, and Majid, 15, in a revenge arson attack on their East Oxford family home in 1997.
But prosecutor Neil Moore, in his closing speech at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, said the mum-of-four, 38, had lied on the witness stand.
Munshi is accused of being part of a gang that set fire to the Magdalen Road house after the family had told her to stay away from their son Amjad, who was jailed for dealing heroin.
On the witness stand Munshi, of Manley Road in Oldham, had said she knew nothing about the plan and claimed it was targeted because of a drugs debt and because one sister was having an affair.
But Mr Moore told the jury said: “These are mere dust clouds whipped up to cloud the true picture.”
He also asked why the family of the victims would hide the true motive of the attack from the police and prevent justice being done.
He said: “It is inconceivable isn’t it, that the whole family would choose to make up lies?”
He suggested it was more likely Munshi was not telling the truth.
Munshi’s defence lawyer Stephen Kamlish is due to give his closing speech today before the judge sums up the case.
