AMERICAN potter Jeff Shapiro teamed up with British clay artist Lisa Hammond as visitors to the Ashmolean enjoyed a clay day.

The potters spoke about their experiences working around the world, gave a slideshow presentation and then demonstrated their pot throwing skills by producing new pieces of work in front of a captivated audience.

Ms Hammond said it was an opportunity to get out of the studio and show off their pottery skills.

She said: “We’re used to working alone in studios so it’s always a bit of an experience working in front of an audience.

“When you show a presentation first it can really spark their interest and get them engaged in what you’re making from the clay.”
