MUSLIMS across the city gathered to celebrate breaking their religious fast yesterday.
Committee members of Bath Street’s Mosque held an Iftar party to mark the breaking of their daily Ramadan fast.
Muslims have been fasting from sunrise to sunset since the holy month of Ramadan began on Sunday, June 29.
Oxford Mosque Society secretary Kamruz Zaman said: “Iftar is the best time to share whatever food one has with neighbours, friends and relatives.
“We arrange a small Iftar party every year that gives opportunities to invite our friends, colleagues and neighbours and also answer any questions they might have.”
The month of Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar and all healthy adult Muslims are required to fast during this time.
They believe that the holy scripture, the Qur’an, was first revealed to their Prophet Muhammed during Ramadan, which ends on July 29.
