A security fence surrounding the building site of the Oxford University animal experiments laboratory has fallen on four people.
Emergency crews were called to South Parks Road earlier this afternoon following reports wind had blown down the 12ft fence.
An eyewitness said the wooden fence, which was also reinforced with metal panels, fell and landed on four passers-by - trappinfg two of them.
One woman suffered facial injuries, while another man is thought to have broken his leg during the incident. The other two suffered cuts and bruises.
Police were already on the scene because a of demonstration outside the lab and officers and protesters raced to help victims.
The victims were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment and health and safety officials were expected to assess the scene.
South Parks Road and Longwall Street were closed while the investigation was carried out and traffic was diverted along the High Street.
