THE family of Liberty Baker - the 14-year-old killed by a car as she walked to school in Witney - have tonight thanked her friends and the community for their support.

Liberty was walking with friends Mercy Greaney and Bronte Moulder when a Citroen C2 mounted the kerb in Curbridge Road. Liberty and Mercy, as well as a male pedestrian, were hit.

Tonight Liberty's devastated family paid tribute to the Henry Box pupils.

They said: "We are devastated and heartbroken that our beautiful daughter and Sister has been so cruelly taken from us.

"Liberty was such a kind and caring girl and her glowing smile lit up our lives.

"We thank everyone for their support and kind words during this devastating time and we appeal to anyone who saw this tragedy unfold, to contact the Police on 101."

Mercy suffered a head injury in the crash, while the male pedestrian - a man believed to be in his 40s - suffere a broken hip.

An 18-year-old arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
