THE small village of Cassington was taken over by the smell of petrol and the roar of engines on Monday.
Thousands of bikers descended on the West Oxfordshire village for the annual Cassington Bike Night, with a range of machines gathering on The Green.
Stuart Woodage, 42, from Burford, above, brought his custom Harley Davidson to the event.
He said: “It is always a brilliant night. I go every year to get together with friends I don’t get to see that often.
“You also get to admire people’s different inventions. Every bike is totally unique to the rider.”
The event has been held for nearly 30 years and raises money for local causes.
David Scothorn, 70, of Rutten Lane, Yarnton, above, took his Royal Enfield Bullet bike to the event and said: “It was incredibly successful.My understanding was that there were 10,000 bikes there.
“You couldn’t see the road for all the bikes. It was an amazing event. I have had classic cars all my life and if making a living hadn’t got in the way I would have done a lot more motor sports.”
Mr Scothorn, who works as a consultant for a specialist classic car and bike insurance company, continued: “It was a fantastic event and very well managed. After years without a bike I bit the bullet, if you excuse the word-play, and thought I would be shameless again and enjoy having a classic bike.”
