Although I applaud the developing technology of driverless vehicles for its safer driving and evironment protection I cannot help but wonder about other effects.

You report that bus companies would like their buses to be allowed back into Cornmarket Street thus eliminating the only fully-pedestrianised street in the city of Oxford. This is not acceptable.

Driving the buses out of Cornmarket was, I well remember, the crowning achievement of the last Oxford Transport Strategy back in 1999.

It took decades of campaigning to achieve in 1999 the pedestrianisation of Cornmarket and restricted traffic in the High Street, so suggestions to bring back buses to Cornmarket, however limited in number, are distressing (August 22).
