VISITORS to an Oxford museum are able to experience the eternal winter of C.S. Lewis’ Narnia and walk a pirate ship deck from Treasure Island in an interactive exhibition of great British authors.

Award-winning celebrity photographer Cambridge Jones captured shots of 26 of Britain’s best-loved writers and storytellers dressed as their favourite childhood characters.

The exhibition of rogues, rascals, wizards and witches at the Story Museum, in Rochester House, includes authors Neil Gaiman, Shirley Hughes, Jamila Gavin and Michael Morpurgo.

The ship’s deck is set on Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, and includes a barrel that character Jim Hawkins hid in while he heard Long John Silver discussing his plans with pirates.

Alex Coke, the Story Museum’s marketing officer, said: “It is an immersive, interactive exhibition, where you can step into the story worlds of Narnia and cross the deck of a pirate ship.

"Feedback has been really positive.

"Children are really enjoying being able to get involved and go exploring. The adults are enjoying the chance to be children again and remember the stories they read in their childhood.”

  • The exhibition runs until November 2. Entry costs £7.50 for adults, £5 for concessions and a family ticket £20. For tickets, visit oxfordplayhouse.com/ticketsoxford/
