A TWO-TIME Oxfordshire beauty queen is heading to Devon in her last chance to be crowned Miss England.

Amelia Watts, of James Street, will be representing the county for the second time at this weekend’s national beauty pageant.

The 24-year-old first won the Oxfordshire title in 2012, but this will be her final chance to secure the national prize as the contest is open only to those 24 and under.

Miss Watts said: “I was completely overwhelmed to be able to secure my place. I had a lot of people coming behind me.

“I love being on stage, I love the atmosphere of these events. It’s just a whirlwind.”

Wiltshire-born Miss Watts scooped the regional title earlier this year after winning the Oxfordshire heat at Witney Lakes Resort in April.

She said: “I had that classic beauty queen moment when you think you’re going to cry.

“It’s wonderful to be given this chance to be Miss Oxfordshire again.

“I’m honoured to be chosen. I have grown up a lot in Oxford and I just love this city.”

Miss Watts came to Oxford in 2008 to start a primary teaching degree course at Oxford Brookes University.

After graduating, Miss Watts worked as a teaching assistant at East Oxford Primary School for a year, before spending the next year as a supply teacher.

She is now studying for a Masters degree in Business Management at Brookes and is due to graduate in January.

At the two-day Miss England final she will compete alongside 60 other contestants for the Miss England crown and the chance to represent the nation at December’s 64th Miss World Final in London.

Winner represented England

In 2002, Miss Oxfordshire winner Daniella Luan went on to win Miss England.

The 2003 Miss World contest began in Nigeria, but human rights issues at the time led to a change of location to London half way through the contest.

Miss Luan, an Oxford Brookes University student at the time, later gained a first class degree in Human Biology and Nutrition.

In 2006, Miss Oxfordshire winner Eleanor Glynn won the Miss England crown and reached the final 20 at Poland’s Miss World Finals in 2007.

Sadly Dilligaf2010 you are correct with your comment. We had many applicants but pulled out as they found it difficult to get sponsorship despite the charity the competition represents; 'Beauty with a Purpose', and lack of interest in the event by the local media.
