THE traditional rural skills of yarn spinning and weaving were on show at Cogges Farm Museum in Witney this week.

They were demonstrated by Ramsden resident Sue Tucker, who is a hand-weaver of wool from locally-bred sheep.

She is self-taught and has been practising the skill for 10 years.

Mrs Tucker said: “I am keen to try and revive people’s interest in the wool trade.

“We live near Witney but there are not many references in the town to its long history with the industry besides the museum.”

Mrs Tucker runs a business from her home selling scarves, cushions, rugs and other woven objects.

She has also shown her work during Oxfordshire Artweeks for the last three years.

Mrs Tucker will lead a yarn spinning workshop at the farm on Thursday, June 26, from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
