With World Cup fever set to sweep across the country, a pair of football fans have created their own website dedicated to the Belgian international team.

Daniel Tannenbaum, from Stanmore, and his friend Roy Skop launched the site belgiumtowineuro2016.com earlier this year following a conversation about the Benelux country's national team.

In the final week of build-up to the World Cup in Brazil the website, which features news and views about the international squad, has received more than a thousand hits a day.

Mr Tannenbaum, 24, said: “For me it all started from a friendly match between England and Belgium at Wembley in 2012. I was watching and realised how strong and exciting the Belgian team was.

“Also during my time at university I started playing football and met Roy and we just hit it off talking about Belgium football.

“Last year we decided to create this website and it took about six months to get everything ready for the launch.

“Since then it has been crazy. We’ve been getting loads of attention and the response has been fantastic for something which just started as a hobby.”

The pair believe this year’s World Cup will be the perfect springboard for the Belgium team to go on and win the Euro 2016 competition.

Mr Tannenbaum said: “I think Belgium will be a lot of people’s second team for the World Cup.

“There are so many players in the squad who play in the Premier League and people watch them week in week out, so there will be a lot of interest.”

Mr Tannenbaum will be updating the website during his free time from his job in digital marketing throughout the tournament, which starts on June 12.

Belgium qualified for their first finals since 2002 after remaining unbeaten during their qualifying campaign and will face Algeria for their first game of the tournament on July 17.
