THE first picture this week is from a rally across England and France.

Well, they made it this far – a sea of happy faces, from these guys and their £500 bangers, at the Bugatti circuit, Le Mans, having made it over from Charlbury.

Snapper Simon Williams has been following them on their travels – not a bad photographic assignment, although I’m hoping we’ve come to some reasonable arrangement on his mileage claim for this one!

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: This is a great frame from a crunch moment as London Welsh battle Bristol in the Championship Final first leg at Kassam Stadium.

These guys won’t thank me for saying so, but they are throwing some great shapes at this split second.

Wherever you look in the frame, including the big pile of players behind, all eyes lead you straight back to the action in the centre. A splendid picture by Antony Moore on Wednesday night.

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: A very cute moment here as a proud mum cuddles her newly-born twins at Cotswold Wildlife Park. Using a long lens and a wide aperture, Mark Hemsworth drops the background out of focus to concentrate our attention on his Lemur subjects.

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: Nice posing and great use of the studio lighting creates a portrait of Eleanor Rushton playing Dracula at the Old Fire Station in Oxford. I like what Jon Lewis has done here, contrasting the low-key blues and blacks of the flesh tones against the dramatic back light. A beautifully menacing portrait indeed.

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: A great bit of mid-air action captured by Andrew Walmsley down at Cutteslowe Skate Park. By under exposing the daylight and blasting with some off-camera flash, Andrew manages to create a forbidding sky as a backdrop for his subject Diogo Ross-Russell. Diogo’s brave and skilful performance should obviously not go unmentioned in the making of this dramatic shot. I’m presuming he didn’t just land in a heap!

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: Life imitating art would be an appropriate title here. Nine-year-old Rhiannon Lee dresses up to recreate the 1868 Manet painting. Meanwhile her mum, Sharon, helps out with the lighting for Jon Lewis to create a further image of the whole scene. By lighting the scene beautifully, and darkening the edges to create a vignetting effect, Jon makes a painterly image very much in keeping with the theme down at the Ashmolean Museum’s activity day.

Oxford Mail:

ABOVE: Down at Harwell Feast, the vintage cars could make great subjects for a photographer. However, staff snapper Damian Halliwell has spotted and captured a lovely piece of interaction between the punters at the event. I like the way he has framed Gina Stuart through the car window while she chats to the highly amused Daphne Barrand. The rain doesn’t seem to be dampening any spirits here.
