Centre ‘is improving’

Oxford Mail: . .

INSPECTORS said an Oxford care unit where a teenager died last July has improved but were surprised some issues had not been resolved.

The Care Quality Commission said Slade House, Headington, now met six standards around consent, care and welfare, safeguarding, medicines management, assessing service quality and records.

A September inspection said action was needed on all its 10 measures and three, covering cleanliness, premises and equipment were lifted in January. But the latest inspection, in March, said action was still needed around respecting and involving people who use services.

An investigation said in February that the death of Connor Sparrowhawk, 18, thought to have drowned in the bath, could have been prevented.

Lesley Munro, of the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust which runs the service, said: “We have been working to put right the issues that were raised.”
