FLOODING caused shops in Witney to shut after a sudden downpour.
Drains overflowed as the rains hit at 1pm yesterday.
Manager at Clarks shoe shop, Lucy Webb, said: “The drains outside the shop have flooded. The water had come right up to the door, but it is going back down.”
Their store managed to stay open, but Ms Webb said Boots and at least one other shop had shut because of the rain.
Sandbags were brought in to protect the High Street Methodist Church as water rose.
County council spokesman Owen Morton said the authority supplied sandbags to protect the church.
Police took to Twitter to warn drivers in the area to take extra care.
TVP Witney tweeted: “Sudden downpour high street Witney flooded please reduce your speed.”
