A grandmother hit by a fire engine died from an “unsurvivable brain injury”, an inquest heard yesterday.
Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter said widow Sultan Begum, 79, died at the John Radcliffe Hospital at 7.25pm on Friday after she stepped into the path of a fire engine in Oxford.
The inquest heard the fire engine was on its way to an emergency call in Cowley Road at about 3.45pm when the accident happened.
Mr Salter told Oxfordshire Coroners Court doctors’ reports showed Mrs Begum suffered a “traumatic brain injury” that was “deemed unsurvivable”.
The full inquest was provisionally set for Tuesday, November 4.
