8:40am Tuesday 13th May 2014 in News
One in three prison sentences were suspended in 2012 in the whole of the Thames Valley compared with one in 50 a decade earlier.
Figures collected by the Centre for Crime Prevention, which is calling for the sentences to be scrapped, show 43 criminals were given suspended sentences in 2002 compared with 1,239 handed out in 2012.
A breakdown showing Oxfordshire figures was unavailable last night.
