A FORMER supervisor at an off-licence has gone on trial accused of stealing £4,330 on his last day at work.

Marc Lyall, 23, of Delph Road, Liverpool, denies theft on March 13 last year when he was working at a McColl’s in Market Square, Bicester.

Naomi Perry, prosecuting, told a jury at Oxford Crown Court yesterday that a total of £4,330 went missing on Lyall’s last day and there was “nobody else in the frame”.

She said he had been working from 5.30am to 10pm and had responsibility for cashing up at the end, as well as taking money to the bank.

She said when the store manager came in the next morning, £1,603 was missing from the safe and the bank had not received a further £2,737.

She said: “The money never found its way to McColl’s account – so it is missing and the Crown says stolen.”

Miss Perry added that on the day the money disappeared Lyall left a note telling his boss he was quitting and would not be working his notice.

She added that a green cashbag from the shop was found in his home and later in the month he paid £2,600 in cash for a Kawasaki motorbike.

The trial continues.
