A man in his 20s needed hospital treatment after a fight at a pub in Witney last night.

The fight broke out at the Red Lion in Corn Street shortly after midnight.

Police and ambulance crews were called at 12.34am to reports that a man has been seriously assaulted and had suffered serious injuries to his head and body.

The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he was still being treated for his injuries yesterday.

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Gill Hodgetts said: “We were called at 12.25am to a male in his 20s with head injuries.

"We responded by sending one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle, and the man was taken to the John Radcliffe."

Det Insp Steve Raffield, of Witney police station, said: “This assault took place in the busy pub, which left a man in a serious condition.

"We would urge anyone who has any information about this incident and who has not already given information to the police to please contact us as a matter of urgency."
