RUNNERS who took part in this month’s London Marathon have raised more than £35,000 for Helen & Douglas House.

Twenty people ran for the hospice for children and young adults on April 13.

One of the runners, Nikki Channon, whose mother works as a care nurse at the hospice, said: “I made it to the finish line all in one piece and got around my first marathon in 4hrs 49min 39s.

“I have been completely overwhelmed by people’s generosity and kindness, their donations and support.

“I have been honoured to run for such a great charity and seeing what my mum does has kept me focused to reach my target.”

Now, the hospice is already recruiting runners for the 2015 marathon.

Event fundraiser Kate Sankey said: “The runners this year have been such fantastic fundraisers and we will support our 2015 runners as much as we can so that they can achieve the same.”
