Old Elthamians RFC U18s have reached the final of the RFU National Colts Cup.

The Chislehurst side will now face Thanet Wanderers in the final on May 5 at Bedford Blues’ stadium, a team they have already defeated 36-12 in the Kent League this season.

It has certainly been a cup run and a year to remember for the for boys, who are undefeated in 27 games to date.

They beat Tring (7-0), London Scottish (50-6) and last year’s winners Hornets (28-19) on their way through to the quarter-finals.

Old Elthamins just edged out Ealing 11-10 in a thrilling last eight encounter before making an epic 700-mile round trip when defeating Carlisle 18-6 in the semis.

Head coach Mark Garratt said: “It’s an amazing achievement, but the job is not yet completed.

“We targeted this title before the start of the season.

“It’s a knockout competition, so every game could have been our last.

“Following 12 years of mini and junior rugby, our boys always intended to go the full distance and we are massively proud of them.

“They deserve an emphatic win.”

U18s captain George Emmerson said: “We set ourselves high standards and over the years we have always worked hard together.

“Now we’re in the national final and I remain enthusiastic.”

Old Elthamains’ chairman of youth rugby Mark Pryor has been impressed by what the boys have achieved this year.

He explained: “The NCC final represents a fitting finale for this outstanding U18s age group who have gone unbeaten all season.

“While we have several strong age groups across junior rugby at Old Elthamians with both the U13s and U16s through to their respective Kent cup finals, the U18s’ achievements represent the pinnacle of excellence we're aiming for.”
