Oxford Mail: Oxfordshire County Council is planning to reduce the speed limit on the Milton Road Oxfordshire County Council is planning to reduce the speed limit on the Milton Road

A DECISION will be made next week on a proposed new speed limit for a road between Milton and Drayton.

Oxfordshire County Council is planning to reduce the speed limit on the Milton Road between its junction with the B4016 Drayton to Sutton Courtenay Road and Milton village.

At the moment the speed limit along the road is the national speed limit but the council plans to reduce it to 40mph following safety concerns.

The decision will be made by county councillor David Nimmo Smith at a meeting at County Hall in Oxford on Thursday at 10.30am.

It's all very well reducing the speed limit, but will it be a "speed tolerance zone"?

I am regularly tail-gated and overtaken on 40mph stretch of the A4074 at the Port Way, Crowmarsh Gifford.

Likewise on the 20mph stretch of London Road between Headington shops and Brookes there appears to be a "speed tolerance zone" where drivers who note the 20mph signs are regularly overtaken.

Nasty bit of road, that. People seem to disregard the narrow blind kinks, concealed entrances and broken/uneven surface and just put their foot down.

Why not just make someone walk in front of the vehicle with a flag and be done with it.

Too many speed restrictions these days, IMHO.
