WALLINGFORD will celebrate St George’s Day in style on Saturday.

More than 1,000 people are expected to flock to the town for the seventh annual event.

The town centre will host live music, Morris dancing, Punch and Judy, face painting and children’s rides from 11am until 3pm in Market Square.

St Mary’s Street and St Martin’s Street will be closed to traffic from the High Street to St Leonard’s Square at 10am for stalls to be set up.

The event, to mark the saint’s feast day on April 23, is organised by volunteers at community group the Wallingford Partnership.

Chairman Derrick Hoare said: “At the moment everything is all set. We tend to be anxious about the weather but it looks like it could be good. It really is a very pleasant day and the atmosphere is lovely.”

The event will be opened by Mayor of Wallingford Bernard Stone at 11am.

A photography exhibition of old pictures of Wallingford will also be on show in the town hall.

Entry and activities are free but there is a charge for children’s rides.
