TWO men have been jailed for a total of six years for a ram-raid at a Witney convenience store.

Solomon Biddle and Nicholas Parker were yesterday sentenced by Judge Patrick Eccles for the burglary at the Londis shop, in Hailey Road, on October 29.

Biddle, 28, and Parker, 23, with the latter’s brother Edward reversed the lorry into the store at about 3.30am.

When a police officer attempted to stop them during their getaway, Oxford Crown Court was told Biddle drove their van into the police car.

Richard Moss, prosecuting, said: “When Biddle was stopped later, sweets were recovered, which had Nicholas Parker’s fingerprints on them.”

Cigarettes and alcohol had also been stolen from the store.

David Burgess, defending, said they had been drinking and driving recklessly and the “violent entry” into Londis was an afterthought.

Biddle admitted burglary, aggravated vehicle-taking in connection with the van, theft of number plates, driving while disqualified and dangerous driving.

Parker admitted burglary.

Biddle, of Langstone Road, Havant, in Hampshire, was jailed for a total of 55 months, while Parker, of Hampshire Street, Portsmouth, got 18 months. Biddle was banned from driving for three years.

Parker’s brother Edward was jailed for five years in December over the raid.
