COMMENT: Football club has a PR issue to tackle

Oxford Mail: . .

HINKSEY Park Football Club has scored an own goal by stereotyping local residents as the blue rinse brigade.

If they had done their research they would have discovered that this type of hairdo, once rather fashionable, largely died out years ago.

Their second mistake was to allow the offensive remarks to fall into the hands of the media and club staff will now have to work hard to get local residents onside.

What a shame someone made this comment and even more so that you decided to print it as I can't imagine it represents the views of the vast majority of people in the club, most of whom are local residents, very active in their community. It's fantastic to see the young children training, the great involvement of parents and grandparents - a club that has been built up by local people from nothing to offer such a great resource to the community. Grandpont is really special place to live, has fantastic facilities for families, and clubs like this provide a great place for teenagers to enjoy sport and learn good positive values in their community, something that is quite rare to find these days and should be treasured. Please do bring a bit of balance to this….
