DASHING, dodging and racing around Headington School, pupils pulled on their fancy dress for a mile with a difference.

Minions joined dalmatians, bananas and salt and pepper shakers for the Headington School’s Sport Relief Mile.

Teachers and about 200 students joined in the fun at the school in Headington Road yesterday.

PE teacher Jenny Rushworth, who was part of an ‘injured’ PE department team, said: “The girls and staff put a great amount of effort and energy into the Sport Relief Mile.

“Our costumes were basically a bit ironic because we have quite a few injuries between us and one pregnant lady, hence the crutches and wheelchairs and bandages.”

Girls leapfrogged, cartwheeled, wheelbarrowed and bunny-hopped the course.

Emily Farmer, 16, from Thame, who painted her face yellow and donned denim in a Despicable Me themed costume, said: “I’m not sporty but I did enjoy it anyway because I didn’t really have to run. We bought some cakes and I helped paint nails in the nail bar.”

Other activities during the day included a non-uniform ‘wear red’ day, a crazy cupcake competition and sale, a student-run nail bar, and a staff vs student hockey match.

The national fundraising event began in 2004 and is held every two years. More than 300 people have signed up for the Oxford Mile in Cutteslowe Park tomorrow so far.
