A CARE home and doctors’ surgery have been told to make improvements after inspections by the Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors paid unannounced visits to both Fewcott Nursing Home and North Bicester Surgery in January.

The care home, in Fewcott, near Bicester, which looks after up to 40 people, was given a formal warning over the way it assesses and monitors the quality of its service provision. It must make improvements by March 30.

Inspectors spotted several health and safety concerns such as unlocked clinical waste bins and damaged carpet in a corridor which could cause people to trip.

They also said proper records were not kept about how often residents bathed.

The home was also told to improve how it kept people’s personal records.

North Bicester Surgery, which has 4,000 registered patients, was visited twice in January and failed two of the five areas inspected.

These were standards in staffing, and standards of quality and suitability of management.

It said there was no “formal system” in place for patient feedback and there was not an effective “supervision and appraisal system for staff”.

Neither organisation was available for comment.
