THE World Pooh Sticks Championships this month will have a Mother’s Day theme.

On Sunday, March 30, mums will be invited to dress up to win the fancy dress mum competition, and kids are welcome to join in.

The championships, pictured – based on the game featured in the Winnie the Pooh books – will be held at Days Lock, Little Wittenham, weather permitting.

Last year’s competition, due to be held in March, had to be cancelled because the Thames was flowing too fast, and took place in October.

Organisers are still keeping their fingers crossed that heavy rain earlier this year won’t have the same effect.

Registration on Sunday will be open from 11am to 1.15pm, with the solo championship from 11.30am to 1.15pm and team events starting at 1.30pm.

Anyone wanting to take part must register in advance online at pooh-sticks.com.

The Rotary Club of Oxford Spires, which has organised the event since 2009, will be serving burgers, hot dogs, tea and cakes and running a face painting stall.
