A MAN accused of raping a woman in an Oxford alleyway has been cleared of all the charges against him.

Jordan Gibbs, of Saxon Way, Headington, was yesterday found not guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

It was alleged he carried out the offences off George Street Mews, in the centre of Oxford, on September 30, 2012.

Mr Gibbs told the jury while giving evidence that he had been out with friends earlier in the evening but was not used to drinking and had not consumed much alcohol.

The 26-year-old estate agent was then walking with the complainant at about 3.30am and he said although they had engaged in some sexual activity it was entirely consensual.

He said: “We just sort of stopped and we were chatting and we kissed. She kissed me and I just sort of responded. She was being very flirty, touching me on my arm and that sort of region.”

And following a week-long trial, the jury took six hours and seven minutes to unanimously find him not guilty.

Last week defence barrister Claire Fraser asked Mr Gibbs how he felt when he heard about the rape allegation.

The defendant, choking back tears, replied: “I was shocked. I just felt terrible.”
