A MAN accused of raping a woman in an Oxford alleyway told a jury he was shocked when he heard the allegations against him.

Jordan Gibbs, of Saxon Way, Headington, denies two counts of rape and one of sexual assault on September 30, 2012.

The 26-year-old is accused of carrying out the offences at about 3.30am off George Street Mews, in the centre of Oxford city, as he was walking with his alleged victim.

Yesterday, Gibbs took the stand at Oxford Crown Court to give evidence and told the jury he and the complainant had touched each other sexually – but it had been entirely consensual.

He said: “We just sort of stopped and we were chatting and we kissed. She kissed me and I just sort of responded. She was being very flirty, touching me on my arm and that sort of region.”

Gibbs said the woman then touched his “private parts” and he did the same to hers.

Claire Fraser, defending, asked him: “Did you have any concern that she wanted you to stop?”

He replied: “In no way whatsoever.”

The barrister said: “At any time did she say ‘no, Jordan get off’ anything like that?”

Gibbs told her: “No.”

Miss Fraser asked him how he felt when he heard about the rape allegation.

The defendant, choking back tears, replied: “I was shocked, I just felt terrible.”

The trial continues.
