POET and rapper Kate Tempest brought the noise to Oxford’s North Wall Arts Centre as part of a showcase of Edinburgh Fringe events.
The winner of the 2013 Ted Hughes Poetry Award performed Brand New Ancients on Tuesday.
It told the story of two South London families as, she says, “their respective generations grow and intertwine into a parable of modern life”.
She was accompanied by a quartet of violin, cello, tuba and percussion at the South Parade venue.
Miss Tempest said: “It’s a really beautiful theatre and it was a very attentive audience.
“They weren’t as loud or as raucous as other audiences but they were really listening to what I was saying.
“Maybe it’s because it’s Oxford and everyone’s really smart.”
